I’m in a state of confusion A perfect oasis, illusion The kind that gives you your wings I’ve found a million excuses In the attic that loosens The tongues of the truth out of boxes that sing Oh the songs that they sing 'Cause I still am stuck in this state But I will find a way to escape And I still am stuck in this state This is mighty fine ice, don’t you think, that we skate A mighty fine line, don’t you think that we skate Weaving through lanes Of this highway of my mind The nerves, and the chemicals firing at will Involuntary actions I lose all connections To the flights that I needed to find my way home And I still am stuck in this state But I will find a way to escape And I still am stuck in this state This is mighty fine ice, don’t you think, that we skate A mighty fine line, don’t you think that we skate I keep buying treadmills Trying to run away But no matter how many I line up I can’t escape I keep buying windmills To get a summer breeze But it’s just ghosts that past through them and they whisper to me And I still am stuck in this state But I will find a way to escape And I still am stuck in this state This is mighty fine ice, don’t you think, that we skate A mighty fine line, don’t you think that we skate

Oh, My Seoul 03:59
There have been a lot of pretty faces I’ve given everything to But none of them, have brought me to places None were anything like you So hold me in the darkest nights Don’t let me go, in the day We’ll be as high as clouds and kites Cut the string on this cage, I promise I’ll stay Oh, my Seoul, skyscrapes fall shadows on me Oh, we’ll go, to the darkest of alleys watch city lights scatter Oh, you’ll see, sail the world on wooden ships on the seas Oh, my Seoul, nothing else matters, with my city built next to me But oh don’t turn around to me I’ll turn to stone, a smiling statue Cause if you are the last thing I see I’d be frozen, but I’d be free There have been so many days I’ve wasted waiting, for words to come To tell my city, so many ways Just what she means, I’m lost in the paths she is from Oh, my Seoul, skyscrapes fall shadows on me Oh, we’ll go, to the darkest of alleys watch city lights scatter Oh, you’ll see, sail the world on wooden ships on the seas Oh, my Seoul, nothing else matters, with my city built next to me Immediately my Seoul she is free I’ll walk down these streets unconditionally And the day I walk down the last new avenue There will only be one thing left to do Oh, my Seoul, skyscrapes fall shadows on me Oh, we’ll go, to the darkest of alleys watch city lights scatter Oh, you’ll see, sail the world on wooden ships on the seas Oh, my Seoul, nothing else matters, with my city built next to me

Well it's a far way off But I think it's time we've had enough Of bickering about tall tales and ghosts Pull the strings my dear If it's far away from you then it's far away from here Make the wind your home Admonish me with all the strength you hold But I never do exactly what I'm told They all try to put me in a spin So now I'll throw caution to the wind There's a place to rest On the other side of the sea It's become a mess But I've dug far enough down that I can see So bring the storm my dear If it's far away from you then it's far away from here Make the rain your home Admonish me with all the strength you hold But I never do exactly what I'm told They all try to put me in a spin So now I'll throw caution to the wind Admonish me with all the strength you hold But I never do exactly what I'm told They all try to put me in a spin So now I'll throw caution to the wind

Silversmith 04:09
The silversmith abandoned his tools Left his hammer in the old shed Designated his infant boy to carry on in his stead Never said a word to his boy Left his lovely wife No one knew why til they opened up the door and shone in the light His wife felt the fool It was right before her eyes Never saw the writing on the walls she had come to despise Looking at the works he left Marks of a shaky hand Shame filled her face and she fled into the never ending sand. The boy lived with kin Shot fire from his eyes His auntie never said his pa’s name or how he had died He lived life with his fists Struck out in his pain At any poor boy who ever called him that vulgar name Come see the demon fighter tonight He fights with the strength of a wounded beast Bring your best man and he’ll knock him down He won’t stop til doomsday The boy became a man Hardened by his scorned dad Became a fighter and took out his rage on the past he never had They said why his dad was gone Had a demon in his hands Signed a pact with the devil boy why is that so hard to understand Your pa must have lived with sin Probably cheated on your ma Would have sold you into slavery at the first chance you saw Now his demon runs in your blood Gives power to your fists Thats why you hit so hard and your blows never miss Come see the demon fighter tonight He fights with the strength of a wounded beast Bring your best man and he’ll knock him down He won’t stop til doomsday The man had had enough I swear I’ll kill you all Knocked every fella to the floor with another broken jaw He fled into the sand From the awful victory won Cursed his demon dad for the sin he’d never done His dad came in a dream “Son it’s your old man Sometimes things just happen there is no master plan There’s no need for shame Quench the fire in your eyes” The silversmith took his son into the never-ending sky

Dark wings, dark words The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree And it’s all for the birds Between the river beds at sea Please fly you fools Or fall trying to make me believe That only when we forget Ourselves are we free I got the short end of the rope In some badlands But I’ll never be alone With my love in your hands And I’ll hand it to you, it’s the best I can do To show you the best of me Let the wind roll in Bring the storm and then leave I’ll sink and swim Into something more than dreams, more than many blessed things Light wings, light words Rock canyon calls to me Dig your holes prairie dog Find what the rest of us can’t see, blind as bats we all believe I got the short end of the rope In some badlands But I’ll never be alone With my love in your hands And I’ll hand it to you, it’s the best I can do To show you the best of me

Dreamsickle 04:24
I’m still stuck in this dream Break away from myself and rise out of sleep Cast the vision aside as things aren’t as they seem I’m still stuck in this dream Where’s the lady and castle and grandiose steed My visor is shattered and I lay at your feet : A lady a dragon a purpose at last One clear direction to undo my past Happiness is mine if the dragon I slay Or just spring from my bed and start a new day What is more real a fiend or an exam One I can kill and the other I can’t If I kill the dragon the lady is mine But if I pass the test I just waste my time I’m still stuck in this dream Break away from myself and rise out of sleep Cast the vision aside as things aren’t as they seem I’m still stuck in this dream Where’s the lady and castle and grandiose steed My visor is shattered and I lay at your feet Come please my love take my knife out my hand I mean no harm I am lost in this land What rules apply that I cannot view Dreadfully sorry if I threw things askew A knock on the door and a yell of the time As outsiders speculate what’s going on inside Nightmares are just dreams that are misunderstand Take the fear out your heart and focus on the good I’m still stuck in this dream Break away from myself and rise out of sleep Cast the vision aside as things aren’t as they seem I’m still stuck in this dream Where’s the lady and castle and grandiose steed My visor is shattered and I lay at your feet Why is this world real and the other a fiction No one can know and there is the friction Advice from a sage nay merely a naysayer Reality’s broken just peel back the layers Take the spade out my hand and I’ll stop digging graves In one world a king and the other a slave My bed is more lovely than this world we live in Which is my joy and which is my prison I’m still stuck in this dream Break away from myself and rise out of sleep Cast the vision aside as things aren’t as they seem I’m still stuck in this dream Where’s the lady and castle and grandiose steed My visor is shattered and I lay at your feet

Apathy cuts against the grain slips down the walls of windowpanes Lack of will stings pins, sews my words shut again There’s no direction here, think I’ll north Lose the path again, still we go forth Into the night and into your eyes The soul keeps us guessing, the soul keeps us wise And we go from here Yea we go from here Dreamed of you last night, in black and blue and white Tried to stay a while, tried to stay a while Time was my only friend, the only part that never ends Tried to pray a while, walked another mile Down the old stone wall, makes us feel ten feet tall While we’re so close to it, stand above all of it And where the old wall ends, we used to play pretend Under the willows, hanging down like gallows And we go from here Yea we go from here Yea we go from here Yea we go from here Dreamed of you last night, in black and blue and white Tried to stay a while, tried to stay a while And where the old wall ends, we used to play pretend Under the willows, hanging down like gallows And we go from here Yea we go from here Yea we go from here Yea we go from here

Boarded a ship, just one more song Blew her a kiss, weak smile and a nod Farewell Maria, I said from the stairs 14 days forward, and we’ll have no cares Blue skies upon us, sun overhead Days all merge, as I lead the octet Turn the covers over, awake to a crash Harsh sound of a siren, and a stiff salty blast Home ain’t that far away, the violins say Home ain’t that far away, the violins say Boys gather ‘round, let’s strike up a tune Memory serves us, with no light from the moon Smiles from the audience, one foot in their grave Calming our people, with songs that we play A shift in the strings, a message is sent Life boats are gone, with our consent Still all my song, my fellows and me An orchestra nearer, my God to thee Home ain’t that far away, the violins say Home ain’t that far away, the violins say My father will meet me, on Lancashire shores They’ll sing of my songs, I hope I’m remembered for more Nearer to God, but farther away From all that I dreamt of, and the music I played Up bow and down bow, as we hold to the rail Crash of the symbols as our instruments fail Goodbye Maria, the salt water swells Good gentlemen, I bid you farewell Home ain’t that far away, the violins say Home ain’t that far away, the violins say Home ain’t that far away, the violins say Home ain’t that far away, the violins say

Seventy miles from waterloo, 26 from cedar falls Iowa may not have mountains but if it did I’d climb them all Just to see the graffiti galleries pass by on endless trains Surrounded by the fields of corn I’m stuck in the same frame Felt like Don Quixote when I first drove in So I spent most the day fighting windmills but I just couldn’t win There’s more rivers than hills, but that’s not saying much Cause the two that I counted didn’t really count as such But when I see those lights, I know I’ve got it made Cause these are the nights that I’d never trade At the 505 in Iowa-fuckin-city Feel so alive and the girls are so pretty here It’s a night of firsts but this won’t be my last Cheers to us and have another glass Pancheros is on my list of things to do Hit up the one downtown been there since 1992 Tailgate the game and get lost alone Cause i just stumbled off all on my own Something about this place it doesn’t belong In a state full of corn where did they go wrong Cause they know how to party, and they do it right As long as the hawkeyes win it’ll be a good night But when I see those lights, I know I’ve got it made Cause these are the nights that I’d never trade At the 505 in Iowa-fuckin-city Feel so alive and the girls are so pretty here It’s a night of firsts but this won’t be my last Cheers to us and have another glass See you in the morning, that's what we'll say See you in the morning Yeah I'll see you in the morning Cause I won’t remember today At the 505 in Iowa-fuckin-city Feel so alive and the girls are so pretty here It’s a night of firsts but this won’t be my last Cheers to us and have another glass

It’s the same ordinary life year after year Move from one day to the next and we’re Getting used to the same routine Playing through the same old scene Then something changes and changes you And you’re stuck in you thought you knew What it would be like to be Where you are, maybe it’s just me I am static, stationary Moving anywhere but up Want smooth sailing but I Suppose safe passage is enough Floating, falling, isn’t freeing Like they said it would be Guess I have a ways to go On this road so follow me Challenge is in changing which hasn’t been my forte For a long time I’ve been drifting by design Slipping through the grid iron short of Trying to discover a life that wasn’t mine But now I have a feeling that things are moving slow I am static, stationary Moving anywhere but up Want smooth sailing but I Suppose safe passage is enough Floating, falling, isn’t freeing Like they said it would be Guess I have a ways to go On this road so follow me But now I have a feeling that things are moving slow

Picket Fence 04:07
Take the furniture, and take your key Take the pictures down, and leave the house empty Make a fool of us both while you can I’m left, just a cold Minnesota man Turn the furnace down, and walk away Your hearings fine, but deaf to what I say Maybe you just forgot what it’s like Said it was just like riding a bike But I’m not gonna fight again Livin’ in an empty house, with just my memories Stack ‘em up, there just exactly what we’ve come to be Make them last cause they’re the ghosts we need the most in our Heads of envy, little lonely, making love to jealousy Afraid of more than, any less than, everything White walls, and white carpet floors Bare beneath, the open door Your footprints fresh in the snow I’m left to everything that I let go A picket fence, in the howling wind A difference, in just your hints If you want to leave than go Speak your mind, come on and let me know There’s nothing left here anymore Livin’ in an empty house, with just my memories Stack ‘em up, there just exactly what we’ve come to be Make them last cause they’re the ghosts we need the most in our Heads of envy, little lonely, making love to jealousy Afraid of more than, any less than, everything

I’ve been a drinking and a rambling A smoking and a gambling and I don’t care what you say I know the day will come when my body says no but today is not that day So pour another round and chase them fuckers down with a swig from your labatt I might be hungover from singing the wild rover But I’m drunk now so fuck that Pass me another beer duck tape and more beer So I can reach level five I can hit all my bros and our smiles sure show we’re happy to be alive So pour another round and chase them fuckers down with a swig from your labatt I might be hungover from singing the wild rover But I’m drunk now so fuck that Now I’m not ashamed of that once wretched name You can call me drunk But my styles the best and to get it off my chest I have way more fun So pour another round and chase them fuckers down with a swig from your labatt I might be hungover from singing the wild rover But I’m drunk now so fuck that A swig of lemoncello makes me a happy fellow Gives me a natural glow If I see the light I just push it aside It is not my time to go So pour another round and chase them fuckers down with a swig from your labatt I might be hungover from singing the wild rover But I’m drunk now so fuck that So now I drink And screw what you think Contraceptive sans Impregnate your brain Now we’re both insane You should get as drunk as I am So pour another round and chase them fuckers down with a swig from your labatt I might be hungover from singing the wild rover But I’m drunk now so fuck that I’m drunk now so fuck that

about

Before there was Muus, before the very idea of Muus, we went to a street-lit corner, set out a guitar case, and jammed on the only three songs we had memorized: Love, Love, Love by Avalanche City, Wait so Long by Trampled by Turtles, and Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons. We made $16 and some change and - being the college students we were – went straight to the liquor store to buy some UV Blue and RC Cola with only the cash in our pocket. Needless to say, we don’t quite recall how the rest of that night went, but it might have been good.

We started up a strange assortment of friends, and called ourselves Ocelot Revolver (popularized as Cat Gun) at our college, which consisted of a guitar, banjo, a spicy redhead vocalist, and a bass player who never wore shoes. But we were missing something. So when our good friend came and played rain stick for us, we knew we had it right (on a side note, he designed the album cover to ‘We Go From Here’). And at one of our gigs he got real drunk and ran around the bar shaking his rain stick at anybody who would pay attention, time signature be damned.

That spirit stuck with us when we moved to Nowhere, Wisconsin, where the average age was 60, and going to meat raffles was a Friday night out. As we struggled through our day jobs, music became something more than drunk jams around bonfires and open mics on small stages – it was our escape, our therapy, our lasting necessity.

And so, in Chris’ cave of an apartment, Muus was born.
